Welcome to my Surfboard Shaping Class at Runyon Surfboards.

This in-person workshop is designed for surfers who want to learn the craft of shaping a surfboard by hand. Over the course of two days, you will learn the tools, techniques, and step-by-step process used to shape surfboards from start to finish.

Whether you're curious about surfboard design or want to shape your own board, this class gives you a hands-on introduction to the art of surfboard shaping.

What You Will Learn

During the class we focus on the fundamentals of surfboard shaping, including:

Understanding surfboard design and rocker

Surfboard outlines and templates

Tools used in surfboard shaping

Foam blank preparation

Rail shaping techniques

Bottom contours

The step-by-step shaping process

Tips used by professional surfboard shapers

The goal is to help you understand why surfboards are shaped the way they are and how each design element affects performance in the water.

Additional Classes

In addition to the shaping workshop, I also offer a two day surfboard glassing class.

The glassing class teaches the fundamentals of fiberglassing and surfboard construction, including:

  • fiberglass cloth
  • resin systems
  • laminating techniques
  • hot coat and sanding

Together, these classes provide a complete introduction to building a surfboard from start to finish.
